About the sign ambiguity in the evaluation of Grand Canonical traces for quasi-particle statistical density operators. Abstract A simple and general prescription for evaluating unambiguously the sign of the grand-canonical trace of quasi-particle statistical density operators (the so-called sign ambiguity in taking the square root of determinants) is given. Sign ambiguities of this kind appear in the evaluation of the grand-canonical partition function projected to good quantum numbers (angular momentum, parity and particle number) in the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation at finite temperature, since traces are usually expressed as the square root of determinants. A comparison is made with the numerical continuity method.

We investigate QCD in the canonical ensemble with respect to the quark number. We reveal that the canonical description in which the quark number is fixed would be reduced to the grand canonical description under the thermodynamic limit. Since the grand canonical ensemble contains fluctuations of the quark number, the idea of the canonical ensemble is of no use for the purpose of defining order...

We review the overlap pathology of the Glasgow reweighting method for finite density QCD, and discuss the sampling bias that effects the determination of the ensemble-averaged fugacity polynomial expansion coefficients that form the Grand Canonical Partition function. The expectation of the difference in free energies between canonical partition functions generated with different measures is pr...

A thorough numerical examination for the field theory of 4D quantum gravity (QG) with a special emphasis on the conformal mode dependence has been studied. More clearly than before, we obtain the string susceptibility exponent of the partition function by using the Grand-Canonical Monte-Carlo method. Taking thorough care of the update method, the simulation is made for 4D Euclidean simplicial m...

We present numerical results on the static quark–anti-quark grand canonical potential in full QCD at non-vanishing temperature (T) and quark chemical potential (µ). Non-zero µ-s are reached by means of multi-parameter reweighting. The dynamical staggered simulations were carried out for n f = 2 + 1 flavors with physical quark masses on 4 × 12 3 lattices.
